Maiden voyage. Where’s the champagne?
Hey there, baseball fans! Mark Higgins here, lifelong Red Sox devotee and your captain on this journey through the timeless waters of America’s pastime. Welcome aboard “Baseball Abides”!
You know, it’s funny. I’ve been a fan for as long as I can remember, and just when you think you’ve seen it all, baseball throws you a curveball. Take the Red Sox trying to trade away two of their best players to save a few bucks while jacking up ticket prices. Does that sound fair to you? It’s enough to make a fan’s head spin faster than a knuckleball in a windstorm.
But here’s the thing - through all the ups and downs, the heartaches and the triumphs, baseball remains. It abides. That’s what this blog is all about. We’re here to celebrate the purity of the game, to remind ourselves why we fell in love with it in the first place.
Sure, we’ll grumble about the latest trade rumors, debate whether the commish is forcing teams to make moves (I’m looking at you, Betts and Price trade), and wonder if the season will even happen when the world throws us a pandemic-shaped curveball. But at the end of the day, we’re here because we love this game.
Who knew the world wouldn’t end when all sports took a medically necessitated hiatus? We managed to live pretty well without it, didn’t we? But I’ll tell you what - I missed it. I missed the crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd, and yes, even the occasional heartbreak when things don’t go our way.
So whether you’re a seasoned fan or someone just discovering the magic, welcome to “Baseball Abides”. We’re going to laugh, we’re going to rant, we’re going to celebrate this game that’s more than just a pastime - it’s a way of life.
Now, let’s play ball! And seriously, where’s that champagne?
Go Sox!
